Get Control Of Your Home Business Expenses

Copyright © Toi Adams

http://www.wealthy911.com

When you begin a home business, forget all the free time and endless vacations many people talk about. Your primary focus is going to be on making enough money to survive. One of the biggest problems new home business owners face is confusing income with profit and it is the profit that will determine if you are successful or not. There is money to be made in a home business, but if you cannot control the expenses, you may not survive on the home front.

Little things that may seem insignificant when you worked for someone else can quickly add up and detract from your ability to survive financially. To begin with your office is now in your home and you will need to treat the home, and its associated expenses, as part of the cost of doing business. One of the biggest expenses you will have is utilities and if you can reduce utility costs for the home, you automatically reduce your cost of doing business.

Most states have competition among suppliers of gas and electric and searching out the company that offers the lowest price and best service may save you a few bucks every month. A couple of dollars may not seem like a lot of money when viewed in the overall picture of running the home business, but over time can up to significant savings. While looking at your utility costs, consider how many lights you leave on when you are not in the room. It is a common error by most families and one the savings devices could be automatic motion switches.

Motion detectors built into the light switches turn on the light when a person enters the room and shuts them off shortly after they leave. This can be a beginning to reducing energy consumption and lowering the bills. Try switching to energy saving fluorescent bulbs that are as bright as incandescent bulbs and although they cost a little more are more energy efficient and should last longer.

Ask yourself if you really need to heat at 72-degrees in the winter. Knocking a couple of degrees off the thermostat may save another couple of dollars a month and with the reduced energy bill you may be able to go out to lunch once in awhile. Speaking of lunch, there really is no need to venture out to the restaurant or even a fast-food joint for a burger. You have a completely equipped kitchen and refrigerator in which your lunch can be stored and prepped.

Do not get caught up in the convenience of online postage companies. Many of them charge a monthly fee, even id you do not use the service. They can run as high as $15 a month just so the service is available. Buy stamps when you are out and save that service fee. You may also not need the movie channels on your cable. You are going to be too busy operating your home business to enjoy many movies and they only distract you when you are supposed to be working.

Finding Time For Home Business

Copyright © Toi Adams

http://www.wealthy911.com

When you have a home business, your biggest issue is always going to be finding time for it. This is something that many people struggle with because they simply think that they will be at home and therefore they will be able to spend all of the time that they need on t heir home business. However, meanwhile, there are things to do around the house, errands to run, and kids to pick up from school. People either end up spending much less time with their home business than they need to, or they spend much more than they should and neglect the rest of the things in their lives, simply because they can. It is important to find the right times for your home business, but how do you do that?

The first thing that you can do when you are looking to find time for your home business is to take a moment and set some ground rules for your business. This should also include a work schedule. This doesn't have to be the typical 8 to 5 work schedule – because, after all, you did sign on for a home business, which means that you should be able to work the hours that you want. However, you do have to set hours. You should take a look at what your home business is, and make sure that the hours that you set are going to work. For instance, if most of your orders come in during the morning, your business hours should be then. If they come in at night, have your hours then. No matter what you decide to set for your home business hours, you have to make sure that you set them, and then that you stick to them.

This does several things for you and for your home business. First of all, it allows you to be able to spend the time that you need on family affairs. If you have children to take care of, simply work your home business hours around that. If there are daily errands to run, give yourself the long lunch break that you need to do those in. But, no matter what, stick to your hours. This will give you the time that you want for your family and the rest of your life. However, it will also do something for your business.

Setting hours for your business is one of the ways that you can move your home business from a hobby to a real business. Many people don't understand home businesses, and they are often confused by what you spend so much time doing. If you set hours for your home business, and stick to tem, you can raise your home business in the eyes of the other people, into something that is completely worth it and something that is real. Making your home business real to others is a great way of boosting your own professionalism. Have set working hours, and stick to those hours. This will help you look good as well.

Five Ways To Guarantee A Failing Business

Copyright © Toi Adams

Five Ways To Guarantee A Failing Business

No one has ever started a home business with the intention of failing, yet there are five things they can do to make sure their business has little or no chance of succeeding. While most people bent on starting their own home business are convinced they have all the right answers, they quickly find out that if they really try they can run it right into the ground.

1. Lack of management experience
2. Improper budget allocation
3. No professionalism
4. Lack of credibility
5. Lack of business promotion

Lack of management experience is the most common source of failure. Many home businesses are begun by individuals with no management or supervisory experience at all. They believe that since they are pretty darn good at doing their job and a few people may be willing to pay them to do it for them, they can set up a file cabinet at home and start their own business. They have no idea what to put in the file cabinet, they just know that all offices have one and they will need one as well.

Their lack of management experience can be exacerbated by their lack of dealing with personnel issues, but since they are the only one employed by the business this is not going to be a big problem until they realize they have no health insurance. That was something the personnel manager took care of.

As money starts to come in from the first jobs, the new owner may have to pay some bills right way and often the money is spent without regard to the best way to allocate the funds. They forget about the business expenses and spend everything on personal needs and wants. After all, it is their business and the money is all theirs, right?

Failure to present a professional environment will also lead to a business's downfall, no matter what type of business it is. Even a one-person shop needs to show their customers that they are a viable business and can act and look professional. This will also help them be presented as a credible business. Most people are becoming used to the idea of dealing with owners of home-based businesses, but most look for signs of them being credible.

If your industry or state requires a business license, you will need to get one and post it in you office. A membership in industry organizations can also help lift the credibility rating and make more people more comfortable in dealing with you. Believe it or not, even placing advertisement in the local newspapers can ad to your credibility.

Lack of advertising and promotion is another sure way of running the business into the ground. If the general public has no idea that your business is open and what services you offer, your friends and relatives will not have enough business to keep your head above water. So if you are positive you want your business to fail, start it on a whim with no plan for how to spend the money, don't advertise it and only change your clothes when the family won't speak to you.

Fear Is Biggest Obstacle To Starting Business

Copyright © Toi Adams

http://www.wealthy911.com

One of the most common causes people shy away from starting their own business is fear. Most understand that when they operate their own business their time is no longer their own the needs of their customer is going to come before the needs of their family and many are not willing to make that sacrifice.

In addition to time, money is the second most fearful aspect of working for themselves, knowing that if they mess things up, it can be a problem for more than just them. The needs of their family will still be there even if the money is not available and there are many other things they have to worry about when striking out on their own. Not least of which is health insurance for their family. They will have no one else to turn to if they can't make the monthly premium payment and most believe they will not be able to afford insurance that offers good coverage based on their projected income.

Some folks are lucky enough to also have a spouse that works and they can be covered under their insurance policy, but when a couple begins a business together there will be nothing to fall back on if business is not as good as they hope it to be. Daily incidentals are also a concern for those thinking about starting their own business. Eating, car payments, rent or mortgage and utilities will all need paid regardless of where the money comes from. Just thinking about how they will pay for everything can keep some people on their old job no matter how unhappy they are.

While everything considered is a real concern, by weighing the potential for success against the possibility of failure, there are some than plan ahead and then take the plunge. Unless they have a remarkable product or service that is going to provide the necessary income beginning on day one, they will have to plan for making the switch from employee to business owner. It may be in their best financial interest to begin their business venture on a part-time basis, maintaining their insurance and level of income while putting in extra hours at their own business until it builds into a full time income.

Many times when working towards making this transition, people can grow frustrated with the pace at which the new venture is growing, but they need to remain realistic. The new business probably will not grow any faster if they are working at it full time and should not allow the perceived frustrations at their old job convince them to make the mistake of leaving before the new business can support them and their family.

While fear of failure should not be the deciding factor of whether to strike out on their own or not, the fear can be used to help them decide when it is financially safe to do so. Ignoring the fear and diving right in may help them become successful sooner, but it can also lead to disaster. Using the fear to better understand the challenges and to develop ways to meet those challenges can make their fear a partner in the decision instead of the deciding factor that prevents them from even trying.

eBay for Stay at Home Moms

Copyright © Toi Adams

http://www.wealthy911.com

If you are a stay at home mom you may be getting the urge to do something more with yourself. You may want to make a bit of money while staying at home with the kids all day. One of the best ways for any stay at home mom to make money is by using eBay. This may sound a bit far fetched, but the fact of the matter is that thousands of people have turned eBay into a full-time job. And to take this a step further, there are many people who have become millionaires by using eBay to buy and sell items. If you work hard at it, you can be next in line for the profits that are being made on eBay everyday of the week.

At this point you may be wondering how eBay can make you money. This is something that a lot of people have on their mind. Using eBay to make money is quite simple. You will list items for sale, and then wait for other people to bid on them, or purchase at a predetermined price.

But in order to get started with this you will need to have items that you can place for sale on eBay. There are a few ways that you can go about getting these items.

1. To find items to sell on eBay you may want to become a regular at garage sales and flea markets in your area. At these events you can buy items for cheap, and then turn around and sell them for a large profit on eBay. This is one option that a lot of stay at home moms opt for when looking for items that they can sell on eBay

2. Another option to consider is making your own products, and then listing them on eBay. For instance, some people make crafts such as candles and then list them for sale. You may not think that there is a large audience for this type of thing, but there are many people that make a lot of money doing just that.

3. Stay at home moms can get their start on eBay by selling items that they have laying around the house. Chances are that your garage or attic is full of junk that you no longer use. But just because you think that the items you have are junk does not mean that somebody else will. By just selling items that you have in your home you may be able to get your start on eBay. And with the money that you initially make, you can then in turn buy more items. Pretty soon you will notice that your profits are growing.
